I understand why Bungie implemented them like that (desperate times, desperate measures), but between the massive RNG involved in the initial drops for many of the catalysts, the disparity of difficulty of simply participating in activities involved in making the drops happen (a raid is much more involved to even attempt than simply a world drop or crucible drop, for example), and the fact that additional grind is required after obtaining the catalyst (which may further force play of non-matchmade activities), it’s an unengaging and utterly unbalanced nightmare.
