Her first novel, The Lotus Eaters (2010), won the James Tait Black Memorial Prize, was a finalist for the Los Angeles Book Prize, was a New York Times Bestseller, and a New York Times 2010 Notable Book. I watched, almost in slow motion, as the plant fell over the side of the table, onto the floor, and into a giant pile of dry soil and tangled limbs.

I thought the writing was really good (unlike other reviewers, who said that the writing was "choppy, with too many commas").

I fell in love with the beginning of the book, and then it all fell flat. The reading level on this one is a bit easier too. Here we see the Bears at their best. It can be new and will be different from home and with that they need to know how to forgive one another. For several months earlier this year, I had mine in a spot that didn’t give it direct sun AND I wasn’t watering it enough. It is one of the more enjoyable books in the Berenstain Bears series, in my opinion. I found the parts about citrus farming to be fascinating.

When I first started reading Tree, I was annoyed by Soli's writing style--I found the sentences to be short, choppy, incomplete and distracting. Ms. Soli knows how to set a mood with her words and she can really do somber. The book not only provides an opportunity for children to learn about forgiving others, it also provides a good opportunity for children to put themselves in the place of the person who is being forgiven. I think they both were mentally-ill in some way. We’d love your help. But I knew the deal. However, repentance does happen in the story on a couple ends.
