the girl who leapt through time painting
Like many readers, I was drawn to it because I enjoyed the anime adaptation so much, and for others considering it for the same reason I have to say that it's very different.
I strongly suspect this is one of those works that wasn't translated well, and is missing a lot of the original elegance and nuance. This book was originally published in Tsutsui's native Japan and is his fifth work to be translated into English. Two novellas for the price of one, so to speak. But I want them to be together!!
Or are they specially dumbed down for, I don't know, people who don't usually read books? We get to know more about Chiaki or her aunt in the movie. I actually preferred the second story, as it felt more fleshed out and realised. I came to read Toki wo Kakeru Shoujo, or as it's officially translated, "The Girl Who Leapt Through Time", after first watching part of the (loose) anime adaptation in class and then viewing the book's film sequel (free on Amazon Prime!). Look, all of the events of this movie were clearly of Chiaki's design. Wish I'd just watched the movie instead of wasting my money! The cover is gorgeous, plus I had been wanting to see the anime movie with the same title for ages.
Though I'd worked out who was in the lab relatively quickly, the twist at the end of the story was very nice. I did enjoy the open end of the main story but for the fairly hefty price on this book, I felt ripped off.
I've heard so much about the MOVIE "The Girl Who Leapt Through Time", so I was assuming that this book would be awesome. The language of this book is so bland and lifeless, the characters so one-dimensional, that I'm actually left wondering if there isn't something I should know... like, were both stories originally created as anime or manga? And it was good I did, because otherwise I would have thought the manga was pretty rushed.
And yet the original story didn't get an English release until this year (and that's probably an attempt to cash in on the anime).
One of Tsutsui's best-known and most popular works in his native Japan is the story of 15-year-old schoolgirl Kazuko, who accidentally discovers that she can leap back and forth in time.
They're very simple, and the translation seems rather stilted -- it comes out sounding like a book written for children to read.Better in concept than execution (and not helped by flat, functional translation), and far outdone by its anime adaptation.Better in concept than execution (and not helped by flat, functional translation), and far outdone by its anime adaptation. This is a light novel for middle-schoolers written more than fifty years ago.
Despite my disappointment with the live action movie Time Traveller: The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, I was looking forward to this book – possibly one of those instances of me being too attracted to cover art. Chiaki has the power of time travel, why can't he do it himself? The writer's style is very sparse to the point of having almost no detail or description at all, which makes it read a bit like a list of bullet points. ]“She could see the name Fukamachi on a shiny name-plate by the door of the house, but it was a name that meant nothing to Kazuko. Someone she would instantly feel she had known for years. The Girl Who Leapt Through Time was released on July 15, 2006 and received positive reviews.
With only a few time leaps left, she attempts to make things right for everyone. It's a story about a girl who can travel back in time a bit and so change/repeat events. Released by Kadokawa Herald Pictures, the film is a loose sequel to the 1967 novel of the same name by Yasutaka Tsutsui and shares the basic premise of a young girl who gains the power of time travel and repeatedly relives the …
He reveals that he has used his final leap to prevent Kōsuke's accident and has stopped time only to explain to Makoto what the consequences will be. The concepts were interesting in both stories (this book actually contains two short stories), and I quite enjoyed Tsutsui's creativity. I actually think I enjoyed the second story, The Stuff that Nightmares are Made Of, more than the titular piece. i loved it ...sooo beautiful and i saw the movie twice ^_^ and i get alot of thing i did not get at the first time .. Having revealed his origins and the source of the item that allowed Makoto to leap through time, and being unable to return to his time period, Chiaki must disappear. And it was good I did, because otherwise I would have thought the manga was pretty rushed. The anime film seized the advantages that the novel neglected to, and turned out a much rounder portrayal of the characters, their motivations, and the effects of time travel. This is hard for me to really rate. Or perhaps it was because the novel was too short - barely 70 pages long. Having seen the movie-length anime film of the same name, I prefer the text. So, today I read the book.. and saw the movie.
And not just any art restorer - the art restorer who has been working on Chiaki's painting for years. This is, in fact, two stories.
- Philip Hensher, "Imagine a manic J.G. (And besides which--what's the deal with the importance of pudding in Anime?) "Remarkable characters", "exciting plot", "fascinating insight" were bandied about like candy canes at Christmas. Rather than a science fiction tale about redemption through time leaps the main character comes across as somewhat psychotic and delusional.
My language exchange Japanese friend was all excited and This is one of the rare times that I find the movie adaptation (or in this case, the 2006 anime film) better than the novel.
これは気に入ってるとかではなくて、背景なんとか描こうとがんばってたなー(遠い目)という感じの絵です。 The Girl Who Leapt Through Time (時をかける少女, Toki wo Kakeru Shōjo, literally "Girl who Soars Through Time") is a science fiction novel by Yasutaka Tsutsui. (This isn't made very clear in the edition of the English translation I read or at least on the website where I bought the epub).
The most plausible answer to that question is that the painting contains the time travel formula. The Girl Who Leapt Through Time Breathtaking, multi-award-winning feature about a girl with a special power… Makoto Konno's life changes after a brush with death, when she discovers a special power: the ability to jump backwards in time.
