Balance 005: James Holden
I would love a remaster. And if ‘Balance 005’ mixed by James Holden is an extension of who I am as a person, then I’m proud of that. Melodic, experimental, trippy, uplifting, I could hardly bear it to end !
Seems another balance series have vinyl release, why not give a chance in this compilation?

This progressive style of house that came out of the post trance scene and is on show par excellence on this CD was never topped for me, not even by Sasha's fantastic various albums or other Holden efforts. I enjoyed both CDs because James Holden has put a-lot of effort in CD1 which I know alot of people will enjoy, but personally their were some cool tracks I liked from CD2 as well. I think I can say, without fear or retraction, that this is going to up there in my top ten ever dance mixes.
My personal opinion is that CD1 is one of the BEST mixes that exist to date in the world, and if it were a one disc release, Balance 005 would have certainly earned 5 stars from me.
Or whatever I paid for it.
Bought this CD a few years ago when it first came out.

I understand that Holden was known as a Progressive House DJ at the time this was released, but in listening to this again for the millionth time, I really wouldn't describe this as Progressive House at all. This is a stunning dance mix - the best I have heard in a long time. I got to agree, this is one of the best mixes I have heard as far as taking you on a Journey, but enough common ground so most people will like it, but it get's really deep at times.
It's definitely leaning more toward techno with a lot of melody, which is what I tend to enjoy the most.
Please try again. 2 × James Holden offers EQ s Balance series the most innovative selection of music to date. Scratched the heck out of it, and disc 1 won't play well any more.
Warrens good taste was affirmed as the track went on to be a Pete Tong Essential new tune, was picked up by Sonys dance label offshoot Incredible, and named one of UK dance bible Mixmags Top 100 dance records of all-time.
I'll always be in awe of it. I vowed a while back, perhaps harshly, not to rate any progressive releases higher than 4 stars simply because they weren't Nick Warren's GU Shanghai. His consistently beautiful and futuristic tracks and equally stunning remixes are always a mainstay of the major league DJs sets, from Sasha, Digweed and Nick Warren to Pete Tong, Oakenfold and Tiesto, with Sasha even asking him to collaborate on a track ("Bloodlock") for his Airdrawndagger album.
